METAL ROOFS = LOWER ENERGY BILLS

A metal roof will dramatically reduce the amount of heat entering the home. Not all metal roofs are created equal though. An aluminum roof is the most energy efficient of the metal roofs. Aluminum roofs have been tested scientifically and it's been determined they reduce the amount of heat entering the attic by 34%. Because of aluminum's superior reflectivity, and other physical properties, aluminum is able to reflect a high percentage of the sun's infrared energy, the portion of sun light that is most responsible for attic heat build-up in a home. This means that the air conditioner doesn't have to work as hard to cool the home. Saving energy = saving money.

ROOF EVALUATIONS

Think you need a new roof? Don't begin by calling roofers for quotes. Start with a roof and attic evaluation. An evaluation includes checking the condition of everything that penetrates the attic and roof. Poor ventilation, attic mold, chimney cap leaks, disintegrated flu pipes, and improperly vented bath vent fans are just a few of the things that need to be evaluated before you put on a new roof. Once you get a written evaluation, then you are ready to get a price to do all the work that's necessary.

ALUMINUM RECYCLING

90% of aluminum can recycling is done in the few states who have the five cent deposit on beverage cans. Iowa is one of those states. Recycling one aluminum can gives back enough energy to operate a TV or a computer for 3 hours.

"GO GREEN"

Last weekend was great at the Go Green Expo at the Habitat for Humanity Re-store. It was good to see so many people take interest in saving energy and reducing their carbon footprint. Speaking of Green, many businesses are using the catch word "Green", even if their product isn't. I think you'll agree there is no product more green than our Classic aluminum roofing material.

GO GREEN! EXPO

I'll be at the Go Green! Expo next Saturday, April 19th from 10am - 2pm, at the Cedar Valley Habitat For Humanity retail store, located at 725 N. Center Point Rd in Hiawatha.

The retail store is bringing together the areas' movers and shakers in the drive to become more environmentally conscious. Presenters will show off their GREEN innovations and technology. I will of course be showing aluminum, lifetime roofing, made from 97% recycled content.

The event is open and free to the public. Hope to see you there.

WINTER OF 2007-2008

Last winter was hard on homes. However, just because you had water entry around the foundation, or through the roof, you don't necessarily have to do something about it. Extreme conditions can cause problems that otherwise would never appear. It is good to have it checked out but don't be surprised if the recommendation is to do nothing.
